Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of prolotherapy on chronic low back pain.

Method:, The subjects consisted of 97 patients suffering chronic low back pain for more than 6 months without significant disc disorder nor radiculopathy. Prolotherapy was repeated at 1 month intervals and the effect of prolotherapy was measured by VAS (Visual Analogue Scale).

Results: In the comparison of the VAS before and after treatment, it was 6.77?1.08 and 3.32?1.51 respectively, which demonstrated statistically significant decrease (p£¼0.05). In 65 cases (67.0%), the VAS after treatment was decreased more than 50% compared to that of before treatment. Prolotherapy was performed once in 13 cases, twice in 34 cases, 3 times in 21 cases, 4 times in 15 cases, 5 times in 7 cases, and 6 times in 7 cases, with 1 month intervals, and a positive correlation (p£¼0.05) was observed between the number of times of prolotherapy injections and the percent of decrease of VAS.

Conclusion: This research showed that prolotherapy may be an effective treatment methods for chronic low back pain.
